Our Groups

Standing Up, Speaking Out

‘Standing Up, Speaking Out’ is the only group of which ALL members of Cardiff People First are members! Our group is planned and run TOTALLY by our members!

We have monthly meetings where members can have their say on any topic which they want to know more about. We go to conferences, marches and other events and we work in partnership with Vale People First’s ‘Real Lives’ group on our new project.

Pink Ladies

The Pink Ladies are a group of ladies with a learning disability. We meet up every month to talk about women's issues. We invite guest speakers to our meetings to talk about different things that affect ladies with a learning disability.

If you would like to come and join us and gain more confidence, we are a friendly group and welcome any lady with a learning disability to come and join us.

Men in Black

The Men in Black group is for all men over 18 with a learning disability in Cardiff.

We meet each month to talk about a range of issues that men may face and how we may over come them. These are chosen by the members, as it is YOUR group! We have guest speakers at our meetings and we also go on visits.

So if you are a man with a learning disability in Cardiff, then you are very welcome to join us!

Golden Oldies

The Golden Oldies is a group for people with a learning disability who are 55 or over.

We get involved in campaigns to make life better for older people. We also meet up once a month in a local cafe for a coffee, a chat and a game of bingo! If you are 55 or over and have a learning disability why not join our group?

Parents First

We are parents with a learning disability. Some of us have our children living with us and some of us don't. We meet to:

  • Find things out.
  • Learn from and support each other.
  • Plan events and make friends.
  • Campaign for equal rights for parents with a learning disability.

We go to conferences, do presentations, train professionals and are also part of the National Parents Network.

Young People First

Anyone with a learning disability who is aged 16 to 25 can join our group, speak up, make friends and have fun.

We've done lots of fun and exciting things since we started, we've made a music video about school choice, won an award for our BOB Apple animation, made dramas about hate crime, we put on a fashion show using recycled clothes and held a stars in your eyes event.
